Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted on January 18, 2022 to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were reviewed for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Upon inspection, there were doors to storage and maintenance that were left open.This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure areas not to be accessed by children are closed and locked.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: Upon inspection of the diaper mat, it was ripped and posed a sanitation concern.This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure equipment is in good repair and easy to clean.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Upon asking to inspect the facility emergency supplies, there were many items blocking the supplies making them inaccessible.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the emergency supplies are accessible

MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: Upon inspection, there were diaper creams containing medication, that did not have parent consent for application.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children's files are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Upon reviewing the 6 children's files, none had the children's sex recorded.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 18, 2022 there were children and staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will provide Licensing with a written response. Licensing will review the response. As part of this Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment was completed and a copy was provided.

Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.

The following discussions were had with the Manager:

· Covid-19 prevention Strategies
· Physical Facility
· Health & Hygiene

The information contained in the report was discussed with the Manager and Licensing stated that the report will be emailed to the facility.
