Introduction

An unscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: In the outdoor play space licensing observed:
-resilient surfacing was low in areas below the swing and climbing structure.
-Nail heads were lifting on several floor boards, of the outdoor playhouse structure. This provides a tripping hazard.
-The orange safety fencing, installed to prevent access down the hill at the side of the playground was curling forward.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection, one staff was observed providing a child under 36 months with a yogurt drink where they were laying on a soft cushion in the classroom. Hand hygiene had not been conducted.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to establish a program to instruct children in and to practice the rules of health and hygiene.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 4 children, 1 support staff and the facility manger present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Medicated wipes included in emergency kit with DIN# should have consent prior to use on children.
Reviewed cleaning and sanitization practice to prevent transmission of communicable diseases.
Reviewed repayment agreement in policies.
