Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: 2 children had medication forms with the time or symptoms specified as "as needed". A conversation was had with the Manager to ensure that the direction is specific to the times or symptoms.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that all medication forms are specific to times or symptoms.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: 2 of 5 children's files reviewed did not contain the name and telephone number of a medical practitioner.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a record is kept for each child of the name and phone number of a medical professional.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated June 3, 2019 there were 5 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and submit a written response to the Licensing Officer by June 17, 2019. The Licensing Officer will review the written response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
