Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Two shelving units in the room used for napping a child in the playpen were not secured to the wall. Licensing expressed concerns of the potential for the two shelves and its contents to fall on the child. There were few storage boxes, toys and equipment stored in this room. Licensee mentioned that the playpen will be moved out of this room till the shelves are secured and the toys and equipment made inaccessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment at all times while children are in care.

Comments

At the inspection dated May 26, 2021 there were 6 children and one staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following were discussed with the manager:

·Room previously used by a family member who no longer resides at the facility to be made inaccessible to the children. Licensee mentioned that items in this room are in the process of being recycled in the coming days.
·Storage of plastic bags
·Spring cleaning of the outdoor play area.

The inspection report was written off-site – details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment sent to manager via email on 26 May 2021.
