Introduction

This was an unscheduled Routine Inspection for the purpose of inspecting the premise for compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP).

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: Manager name was not posted in a prominent place near the licence.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Taps in the children's bathrooms showed signs of rust around the handles, accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: During inspection, licensing reviewed eight files. One file was missing the name and telephone number of the medical practitioner, and one file contained no emergency contact.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19320 - CCLR s.59(a) - In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation: One staff file was not available for review at the time of the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to have systems in place to ensure all files are available for review at the time of inspection.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 16 children, and 2 staff were on site.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions

The following was discussed:
Completion of care plans as part of a plan to support children in care.
Licensing reviewed keeping the exits clear
Discussed use of space and ensuring the additional spaces are ready for the care of children when operating.
