Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practise (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The following was observed:
-one electrical outlet accessible to children - covered at time of inspection
-diaper change table surface is not a wipable surface
-carpet areas appear to need vacuuming - Licensee stated carpets are vacuumed once a week but may need it more often
-high chair cushion appears to need a wash - Licensee stated they do wash it regularly and currently no children use the highchair and will put it in storage
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a clean and safe environment at all times.

Comments

At the inspection dated March 1, 2019, there was 1 child in care and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Temporary Placements
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water
