Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practise (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The following areas are to be addressed:
-food waste bag is on the kitchen floor
-wood beams and old chain link gate accessible in the yard
-ceiling fan in the nap room is unsteady when turned on
-prevent access to garden and prickly stems
-ensure children do not have access to tenant's belongings in the undercover area
Corrective Action(s): Please address all of the above areas to ensure a healthy and safe environment for children.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: No paper towels or appropriate hand soap available in the children's washroom.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure single use towels and viable soap is available at all times for children.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19060 - CCLR s.57(1)(a)(b)(c) - A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Two children were in attendance today that did not have a file on site.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all children have a complete file prior to attending the facility.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 22, 2023, there were 8 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection, the above contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
