Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed: Licensing; Physical Facility; Staffing; Polices & Procedures; Care & Supervision; Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control; Medication; Nutrition and Food Services; Program; Records and Reporting
As part of the Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Comments

During inspection: Licensing randomly reviewed 6 children's files and noted all required documentation is on site; Licensing also reviewed staff documentation sheet and noted all required documentation is on site at head office.

Licensing noted that the facility has been painted and looks very bright and clean; caulking has been repaired by washroom sinks.

During inspection Licensing noted the following activities were accessible to children inside: charcoal art and art supplies accessible in the studio; a large block structure had been created & was able to remain intact even though children were no longer engaged with it. Licensing observed numerous pictures and documentation posted showing the different activities that children have been engaged in.

During inspection one group of children was on a community walk while 2 groups of children were in the outside play area engaged in the following activities: reading on the climber deck; reading with a staff person; riding trikes; playing with balls; looking at insects; making mud pies in the sand area; climbing a short tree with staff supervision.

Licensing observed staff persons getting down to a child's level to talk to them about their day, their activities and to assist them with problem solving.
