305 - Conditions observed that may allow entrance/harbouring/breeding of pests [s. 26(b),(c)]

Date to be corrected by: Oct 11, 2018 (tonight)
Violation Score: 9

306 - Food premises not maintained in a sanitary condition [s. 17(1)]
Observation: Areas of the premise need significant cleaning due to old rat droppings:
1. In back storage room directly on top of a metal ladder
2. In back storage room on edge of flooring (right side)
3. Behind the stand-up cooler near the back of the store
Corrective Action(s): Remove these old rat droppings using a 1 part bleach, 9 part water solution.

Date to be corrected by: Oct 18, 2018
Violation Score: 3

307 - Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces are not of suitable design/material [s. 16; s. 19]
Observation: Garbage bag used to store fish fillets in back chest freezer.
Corrective Action(s): Remove the garbage bag. Store the fish fillet in food-grade containers. Garbage bags contain odour-suppression chemicals that may leach into food products.

Date to be corrected by: Oct 18, 2018
Violation Score: 3

308 - Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces are not in good working order [s. 16(b)]
Observation: Hand wash basin inside washroom is clogged. Operator states that a work order has been placed for the property owner.
Corrective Action(s): Unclog the hand wash station. A clogged station prevents proper handwashing and could be an attractant for pests, as the water is quite murky.

Date to be corrected by: Oct 18, 2018
Violation Score: 3

Comments

Routine inspection conducted. Facility is cluttered and generally not well maintained - there is AN EXCESSIVE amount of product per the space allotted (allegedly 750 square feet).

- Front beverage cooler at 4C
- Chest freezers (front of store, back of store, storage room) vary from -13 to -18C
- Stand-up upright freezer at -18C
- Operator states that frozen fish is purchased in large bags, then weighed on weigh scales, then directly sold to the consumer
- Rice bags and canned items are intact, no evidence of damage at time of inspection - good
- Holes in back entrance appear to have been sealed

NOTE: Operator claims no repackaging is done on-site. Previous evidence of repackaging, including vacuum sealers, were not noted at time of inspection. Remember: You are not approved for any re-packaging. Operator claims that smaller unlabelled bags come directly from manufacturer - these bags must be labelled. There are currently still numerous products that are not labelled - although no scoops or bags are present on premise. If you order from a manufacturer and sell the product to the consumer, the product should be appropriately labelled (e.g. with common name, date of packaging, manufacturer, net weight, etc.). Recent invoices provided at time of inspection.

The following also require your immediate attention:
- Unclutter your store. There is too much stock, leading to the possibility of harborage sites. Too many boxes are being placed on the floor instead of directly on shelving
- Label all of your products. Since you do not repackage them, you need to label each product appropriately

A follow-up inspection will be conducted to ensure that you have complied with health requirements. Provide all remaining invoices for review in follow-up inspection.
