Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Review of 3 staff files observed 1 did not have a criminal record check from the Criminal Record Review Board. There was an RCMP criminal record check on file.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a criminal record check is obtained from the Criminal Record Review Board.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Review of 5 children's files observed 1 missing an emergency contact and 1 missing a medical practitioner's name and phone number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children's files are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated November 09, 2023 there were 7 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. This inspection and the risk assessment were written on site and reviewed with the Manager, a copy was provided via email.


The following education/recommendations were provided:
- Parents may document a walk in clinic if a family doctor is not available.
- Medication storage.
