Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Walk through of outdoor play space, Licensing noted a sand box area that is not covered when not in use
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the sand box is secured in a way that would prevent animals from accessing the play area

Comments

At the inspection dated May 12, 2022 there were 5 children and 1 staff present.
At this inspection the above noted contravention were identified. The Licensee/Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response.

Licensing discussed with the Licensee/Manager how foods consumed by the children in care has been shared with the parents, which sticky notes are used to inform parents of what they children have eaten throughout the day.

Licensing also reminded the Licensee/Manager that Fire Extinguishers must be serviced annually to ensure proper function in case of emergency.

Licensing does recommend always taking one of the first aid kits outside when playing the backyard so that it is readily available when needed.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. For this inspection the contents of the Facility Inspection Report and Risk Assessment were discussed on site, however were written off site and provided to the Licensee/Manager via email. No signatures were captured during today’s inspection.
