Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that the nap area in Room I had an electronic device wire exposed and easily accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Corrected during inspection.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Licensing observed two staff were missing on file an updated copy of their criminal record check.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that staff have an updated copy of their criminal record check on file.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Licensing checked the children's files and observed that one child was missing on file the medical insurance plan number.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the child's medical insurance plan number is on file.

Comments

At the inspection dated Dec. 16, 2021 there were 115 children and 27 staff present. The manager was on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response by Jan. 04, 2022. The contraventions noted in this report were reviewed with the facility during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

A COVID-19 Risk Screening was also completed.

The following education/recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Reportable Incident and procedures
- Continue to follow COVID-19 policy
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Continue system for cleaning beddings
- Hand hygiene procedures
- Continue checking expiry dates of items in the emergency supplies kits
- Upcoming service date of fire extinguishers
- Outdoor play area safety and active supervision
