Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSOP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed: Licensing; Physical Facility; Staffing; Polices & Procedures; Care & Supervision; Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control; Medication; Nutrition and Food Services; Program; Records and Reporting.
As part of the Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: During inspection Licensing noted that the vinyl edge along the window bench is lifting from behind exposing the foam filling which causes it to not be able to be cleaned and disinfected properly.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure vinyl is secured to cover foam to allow for proper cleaning and disinfecting.

Comments

During inspection Licensing observed children inside the facility engaged in free play which consisted of: dramatic play (making tea); exploring with bark and (plastic) insects; creating clay sculptures; reading books with a staff person, etc.

During inspection another group of children arrived after a trip to the library to get books on insects and forests.

Children then all went outside and were engaged in free play which consisted of: painting; drawing on a large piece taped to a table using chalk and crayons; playing in the sand; climbing on the climbers, using spray bottles to spray water on plants, etc.

During inspection Licensing observed staff interacting with children while they were engaged in their activities; giving transition warnings; assisting with problem solving when necessary,
