Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DOLSOP).

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a box containing bags accessible to children in care.(corrected during inspection)
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to create systems to ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under supervision of employees.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: DLSOP Safe Play Space – There is no system in place to ensure regular checks and maintenance of equipment.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the community care facility and furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 5 children, and the licensee present. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Licensing confirmed expiry dates for valid criminal record checks
· Cleaning and sanitization practices for indoor and outdoor spaces.
· Review of the policies for active play and outdoor play. Licensee will provide the copy located online to licensing via email for review.
