Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: During inspection Licensing tested the water temperature in both washrooms being used by the daycare children. The temperature of the hot water at both sinks read 54C which is above the maximum allowable water temperature of 49C.

Staff stated they would observe children when they use the water to use both hot and cold water until the temperature can be lowered to prevent scalding.
Corrective Action(s): Reduce hot water temperature at both washroom sinks to 49C an routinely monitor to ensure the maximum temperature is not exceeded.

Comments

At the inspection dated Sept 12, 2019 there were 4 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified
Licensee to submit written response to Licensing once hot water temperature has been reduced. Licensing will conduct a follow up inspection to test the water temperature at a later time.

During inspection Licensing observed:

children arriving from school pick up, eating snack and then engaged in working together at board games.
staff interacting with children while they were engaged in activities.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
