Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #KSWY-B8HQYQ have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed landscape fabric exposed in areas of the outdoor play area which can be a tripping hazard.

During inspection staff raked the bark mulch to cover the landscape fabric to prevent tripping hazard..
Corrective Action(s): Ensure landscape fabric is not exposed to prevent a tripping hazard.

Comments

At the inspection dated Dec 9, 2019 there were 7 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified.
Licensee to monitor outdoor play area to ensure landscape fabric is covered by bark mulch to prevent tripping hazard.

During inspection Licensing observed:
- children engaged in free play, having a circle time, snack and then engage in outdoor free play
- staff interacting with children while they were engaged in activities, giving warnings before times of transition and assisting with problem solving when necessary.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
