Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION):
Found raw, ground beef being store above breads in the cooler. All raw proteins shall be stored below or separately from RTE foods to prevent cross-contamination.
Corrective Action(s):
Relocate the raw, ground beef to the lowest shelf and retrain staff on the proper method of storing foods in the cooler. During the inspection, staff moved raw beef below the bread.

307 - Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces are not of suitable design/material [s. 16; s. 19]
Observation:
The pantry storing dry foods and single use items (paper towels, napkins, etc.) has carpet on the flooring. Carpet is not a material that is smooth, sealed, and easily cleanable. The pantry floor requires to be cleaned/vacuumed every night as food is being stored in the room.
Corrective Action(s):
Remove the carpet and install a material that is durable, smooth, sealed, and easily cleanable.

Observation:
The high temperature dishwasher rinse cycle was 160F as per thermometer on the machine (68C at plate's surface as per max/min theremometer). The temperature shall reach 180F and hold for 10 seconds to properly sanitize dishes.
Corrective Action(s):
Immediately have the dishwasher fixed so the rinse cycle reaches 180F for 10 seconds. Until the dishwasher is fixed, dishes can be washed in the dishwasher, then submerged in Quats sanitizer solution for 2 minutes to achieve sanitization, and then air dried so the sanitizer can evaporate.. Contact our office (604-949-7722) when the dishwasher is fixed.

Comments

A routine inspection was conducted, the following observations were made:
- Lunches offered ($3) on Wednesday-Friday; members help in the preparation of meals to learn new skills; and dinners offered once a week. Notices of weekly activities/events distributed to the public via other organization and offices.
- Coolers 4C or colder; freezers -22C or colder; thermometers present.
- Hand sinks stocked with liquid soap, paper towels, and running hot and cold water.
- Quats sanitizer in spray bottle was 200ppm.
- General sanitation is good. No signs of pests.
- FoodSafe certified staff present.
- Foods stored in food grade containers; covered; labeled; date coded; in groups to prevent cross-contamination; and 6" off the floor on shelves.
- No expired foods in use. FIFO rules being followed.
**A follow-up inspection is required to be completed when the dishwasher is fixed. Contact our office (604-949-7722) when the dishwasher is fixed to schedule the inspection.**
