Introduction

An unscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSP).

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: Licensee had gone through the process of verifying ECE certification with licensing last year, however a copy of the verification was not placed in the file.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to verify all employee Early Childhood Education Certificates, and Assistant Early Childhood Education Certificates.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: 8 children's files reviewed. 1 file did not contain the telephone number of the Medical practitioner.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to obtain the phone number of the medical practitioner.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
The COVID-19 Pre-screening was conducted at the door.
During today’s inspection, there were 10 children, a support staff and the facility manger present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.

The following was discussed:
Licensing discussed the use of a daily log book that is not shared with parents which would keep track of 'non reportable' incidents pertaining to children.
Reducing the amount of storage in the corner of the room.
Cleaning and sanitization procedures were reviewed.
Ensuring staff files contain up to date immunization records declaration.
