Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed a hose sprawled across the cement outdoor play area. Potential for a child to trip on it and injure themselves.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area:
- four panels, of the wooden fence, that are broken and detached at the top.
- Part of the fence, on one side of the pea gravel area, is leaning into the neighbouring yard. Upon touch it is unstable. Potential for it to completely collapse into the neighbouring yard.
The staff informed Licensing that they are working with the neighbour to have the fence replaced.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the routine inspection conducted today May 10, 2023, there were 7 children, 1 staff and the Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee is required to correct all identified non-compliances by the dates indicated above in the violations section. A written response is to be provided to Licensing on the date specified for Licensing to review that appropriate corrective action has been taken to address all identified non-compliances. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed.
The following discussions were had with the Manager;
- Care Plans; to ensure that they are reviewed at least once a year
The contents of the inspection report were reviewed with the Manager at the time of the inspection. This report was written off site. A copy of this report and the risk assessment were emailed to the facility.
