Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that a baseboard heater was hot to the touch. The baseboard heater is located in an area used by the children. Licensing discussed compliance options.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is maintained at all times while children are in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed alcohol stored in the fridge. The kitchen area where the fridge is located is used by the children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to hazardous substances.

CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14360 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Licensing reviewed the attendance record and observed that there were multiple days this month when there were 5 children in care under the age of 4. As per schedule E of the CCLR, there can be no more than 4 children under the age of 4 in care at one time for a family service type. Licensing discussed compliance options.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure appropriate ages as per Schedule E of the CCLR.

Comments

At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing provided a date for addressing the contraventions and is requesting a written response by January 21st advising on compliance.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.

The information contained in the report was discussed with the Licensee and the report and risk assessment were written off-site. Licensing advised that copies of the report and risk assessment would be emailed to the facility.
