Introduction

An unscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Of two staff files reviewed, one file had an expired Criminal record Check(CRC). Manager stated that all files are held at the head office. Manager called the head office to check that the CRC has been renewed. The CRC had not yet be renewed at the head office.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to have an up to date criminal record check for each employee.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
The COVID-19 Pre-screening was conducted at the door.
During today’s inspection, the facility manager,1 support staff, and 6 children were on site.
At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contravention.

The following was discussed:
Storage on the top of the cupboards was discussed. The manager stated they have a system in place to ensure the items are secure and stable when stored.
There was one place on the wall where there was a piece of dry wall exposed. The manager had previously informed licensing that the school has a work order in place to repair and paint the wall, however the work was pushed back due to COVID. This should be taking place shortly.
Manager stated that the second classroom has not been in use throughout this school year due to low enrolment, and the care is primarily in one of the classrooms.
