Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The following was observed:

> Two plastic floor lamps over 5 feet tall in the 30 months to school age play area.The concern is that the lamps can fall on a child if pushed as they are light and easy to move.

> Protruding nail inside the top of one of the wooden posts attached to the playground structure. The nail is within children's reach. This was temporarily addressed during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment while children are in care.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 3 staff files and observed that 2 staff were missing record of a criminal record check (CRC) through the Criminal Record Check Review Program. One of the staff member had a CRC completed through the RCMP and another staff member had a CRC from their previous place of employment.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure staff have appropriate CRC's prior to employment.

Comments

At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified and dates for correction were provided. Licensing is requesting a written response by July 23rd advising on compliance.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.

The information contained in the report was discussed with the manager and the report and risk assessment were written off-site. Licensing advised that copies of the report and risk assessment would be emailed to the facility.
