Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The sleeping mats with sheets left on the mats are stacked on the top of each other and stored in the crib that is not in use.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee must ensure that the bedding used for children are stored separately. A system is implemented to take them off after each use before storing or stored separately.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Observation: Extended electrical cords were observed within the facility and accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Electrical cords were pushed behind the shelf so that they are not accessible to children. Permanent solution to be implemented.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: The water temperature in the bathroom was recorded at 52.5* Celsius. Children use this tap to wash their hands and the recorded temperature poses as risk.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure any heated water accessible to children does not exceed 49* Celsius

STAFFING: 12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: Immunization Status not obtained for staff.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure staff screening and required documentation is complete.

Summary of Inspection:
· At the inspection dated January 8, 2024 there were 4 children and the licensee present. At this inspection above noted contraventions were identified.

The following was discussed or education provided:
Ensure that hand wash towel used by staff is not accessible to children.
Ensure that the references provided for the staff are included in the staff file.
Ensure that emergency evacuation drills are practiced with taking the emergency supplies out during the drill.
Ensure that licensee own children are included on the attendance record.
