Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: Several nap mats are showing signs of wear and tear, have exposed foam and have areas that have been repaired with duct tape. Due to the exposed foam the mats cannot be adequately sanitized after use. The manager stated there is a budget to order new nap mats but they have not been ordered yet.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure there are no exposed areas of foam on nap mats.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Staff purses are stored at child height. One purse contains personal care products.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that any personal care products are not accessible to children.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17010 - CCLR s.48(1)(a) - A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): One fridge temperature was measured at 8C.
Corrective Action(s): To ensure safe storage of food please ensure fridge temperatures are between 0-4C. The fridge temperature was turned down during this inspection.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated July 30, 2020 there were 21 children and 11 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee is required to submit a written response to CCFL on or before August 10, 2020 stating how the contraventions on this report have been addressed. As part of this routine inspection a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. a copy of this inspection report and the risk assessment were emailed to the Licensee on July 30, 2020.
The following were discussed with the manager:
Access gates to the facility are not to be padlocked when the children are in attendance as they are fire exits.
All care plans need to be updated at least once every 12 months.
Areas of the facility are starting to show signs of wear and tear. It is recommended that a maintenance plan be formed.
A copy of the Resource Package for Child Care. Covid 19 Prevention was provided.
