Introduction

An unannounced routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, Child Care Licensing Regulationand the applicable Director of Licensing Standards of Practice. All areas of the facility were inspected except the facility's policies and procedures as there have been no changes since the last routine inspection.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During the inspection of the outdoor play area Licensing noted some of the support posts into the brick walls have paint peeling and are beginning to show signs of rust.

Corrective Action(s): These areas will need to be maintained to eliminate any rust. The Licensee is requested to submit a written action plan as to when this work will be completed.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing saw containers of shaving cream and bottles of baby oil located in a lower cupboard where children could access. Noted on these containers is the manufacture's statement of 'keep out of reach of children'.

Corrective Action(s): The Manager relocated these items during the inspection; no further action is required.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17020 - CCLR s.48(1)(b) - A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits.
Observation: Licensing look into various children's lunch boxes and noted some did not have an ice pack and there were high hazard foods (dairy, rice, meat) in the lunch box. This poses a high risk of children consuming food that has been spoiled.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children's food is stored with an ice pack or in a thermos to prevent food borne illness.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 12, 2020, there were 18 children and 5 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified and any action required by the Licensee is included. As part of this routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
