Introduction

An unscheduled follow up to the routine inspection KBEL-C49PGT was completed to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Residential Care Regulation(RCR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records, and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 31320 - RCR s.22(3) - A licensee must ensure that all rooms and common areas, emergency exits, equipment, and monitoring and signalling devices are inspected and maintained on a regular basis.
Observation: Facility contains exercise equipment that is used by persons in care within their rehabilitation program. The plan provided to CCFL after the routine inspection stated that the equipment would be routinely inspected by staff using a checklist, however no checklist has been created and the plan has not been implemented.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the exercise equipment is inspected and maintained on a regular basis.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 31760 - RCR s.35(1)(c) - A licensee must provide the following appropriately furnished and equipped areas: (c) secure, safe and adequate storage areas for cleaning agents, chemical products and other hazardous materials.
Observation: One cupboard previously used for chemical storage was no longer to be used, however was found unlocked and containing a chemical cleaner.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all chemicals and cleaning agents are secured at all times.

Comments

In discussion with the facility Manger, it was confirmed that the facility policy regarding Reportable Incidents was incomplete. Please refer to Schedule D in the Residential Care Regulation to ensure all matters are correctly reported to the CCFL as required.
