Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following inside the facility:
-A shelf over 6 feet tall was not anchored to the wall, heavy items were on top of the shelf
-A trampoline was leaning against the wall in the nap room
-1 electrical outlet cover was missing

Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area of the facility:
-The garage door was unlocked and the following was accessible: A whipper snapper on the wall and tables stacked against the wall. Please correct by September 15, 2021
-A mat had folds in it that could cause a tripping hazard
-A fire poker was located in an outdoor fire pit. There was a lid on the fire pit and logs were on top. Please correct by September 15, 2021
-Garden sheers were located in the basketball net. Please correct by September 15, 2021

Comments

At the inspection dated September 14, 2021 there were 7 children, and the Licensee was present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Please correct the above noted contravention by September 21, 2021 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Licensee.

The following education/recommendations were provided:

-The reportable incident reporting procedure.
-The current COVID-19 protocols that are in place
-Active supervision
-Please ensure children's food intolerance information is noted in the classroom.
-Items with a Drug Identification Number were observed in the first aid kit. Written permission from a parent or guardian is required prior to use.
-Items such as a triangular bandage and a CPR mask are missing from the first aid kit.

The inspection findings were reviewed with the Licensee at the inspection. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the inspection report and the risk assessment were completed at the Burnaby FHA office. The report was written in .5 hours and this is not included in the report. A copy of these documents were sent to the Licensee. If you have any questions regarding this report please contact me.
