Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #SCHE-AVPRF6 have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: Several heavy items are stored on the top of a shelf in the facility play room. In the event of an emergency these items could pose a risk to the children playing in the area. LO discussed options with the Licensee to ensure these items are stored safely.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure equipment and supplies are sturdy and from hazards.

STAFFING: 12160 - CCLR s.20(1) - The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation: All CRC's for the individuals working and residing in the facility have expired. The Licensee relayed that their was some difficulties renewing the CRC applications. LO shared with the Licensee the FHA CRC code and id number in order to renew all CRC's of the persons over the age of 12 that are ordinarily present in the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all persons over the age of 12 that are ordinarily present have valid CRC results at all times.

Summary of Inspection
On the inspection date of January 10, 2019 there were 7 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee include a corrective action plan is required to be submitted and actions required the LO include to review and monitor the corrective action plan. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
