Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Tweezers used around the eye or for permanent make up are considered semicritical items and require high level disinfection. Alcohol is not a high level disinfectant.
Corrective Action(s): Use a high level disinfectant to disinfect tweezers. Watch dates and DIN # required.

Comments

Hair Services:
- ***Check and confirm that the hair wash sinks have backflow prevention devices.
- Barbicide available and clean. ***Recommend more than one barbicide container if several stylists are using the same barbicide.
- Clippers - stylists state they use barbicide spray. Clippercide can also be used.
- In house laundry - use hot dry. Launder between clients.
- Hand washing sink in back staff room. Liquid soap and paper towels provided.
- No shaving (no razors).
- Chair rentals providing only hair services (no shaving).
Esthetics (including eyelash/brow tints, threading, waxing, facials, lash lifts):
- Using room with sink and has liquid soap and single use towels.
- Disposable waxing strips, wooden spatulas, etc.
- Eyelash and brow tints have correct labelling (for Professional Use Only).
Eyelash Extensions:
- All technicians providing eyelash extensions are to have training (certificates provided).
- Using room with hand sink - liquid soap and paper towels provided.
- Eyelash glue - check that labelling has all requirements from Health Canada as discussed (ask manufacturer to make sure this is HC approved labelling).
- Semi-critical items - tweezers for use around the eye require high level disinfection (not alcohol). High level disinfectant is available - watch expiry date.
Permanent Makeup:
- Critical items (needles for permanent make up/tattoo machine) are single use, pre-packaged, and have not gone past expiry date.
- Sharps (needles) are disposed of into a sharps container.
- Tattooing/permanent make up machine is covered with plastic and disinfected after use. Use an acceptable disinfectant wipe on machine and plastic is discarded after use.
- Tweezers - use high level disinfectant.
- 5% maximum lidocaine can be used. Do not use the numbing agent with >5% numbing cream and/or with benzocaine added unless you are a trained professional permitted to use this - please provide information.
- Room being used has a hand sink with hot/cold water, liquid soap and paper towels.
- Provide copy of your training certificate for permanent make up.
- Disposable sheets to cover bed.
- Room being used is to be protected from contamination and cleaned prior to using for permanent make up. There are to be no incompatible uses.
Laser:
- Currently not in use but is on site. Information on laser previously provided. Contact Fraser Health for an inspection prior to next use.
- Review manual. Training certificate required.
- Eyewear, room set up, signage on door, covering of reflective surfaces, etc. is to be verified prior to next use.
- Sharps container available for disposal of razaor if used.
General:
- In house laundry for towels and sheets.
- Hand sinks in each treatment room and in back staff room.
- Premises clean.
*** Operator to provide an updated Infection Control Plan by January 30, 2023 that lists all services and how implements, equipment, and surfaces are cleaned and sanitized before use.
Recommend that you organize your infection control plan by listing non-critical, semi-critical, and critical items under each service being provided.
Include all disinfectants and how they are used.
