Introduction

An unscheduled routineinspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: Licensing observed that the name of the manager was not posted in a prominent place in the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the name of the manager is posted in a prominent place in the facility

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During inspection, the door going to the staff washroom was open and ice melting chemicals were stored inside on the floor, which could easily be reached by children.

This item was identified and contravened on March 16, 2020 on routine inspection report #CLAN-BMRVER.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Licensing observed that the monthly fire drill was not recorded for the month of June.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the monthly fire drills are recorded.

Comments

At the inspection dated July 27, 2021 there were 19 children and 4 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes providing a written response to Licensing.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

A COVID-19 Risk Screening was also completed.

A business card was provided to the facility.

The following discussion and education were provided:
- Continue to follow the COVID-19 Policy of the facility
- Pet policy and procedures
- Health and Hygiene (Handwashing)
- Promoting outdoor active play in the program
- Using the incident log book often
- Regularly checking the expiry date of food items in the emergency kit
- Licensing role and procedures
