Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #DCHG-ATQUBV have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): It was observed that manager name was not posted in the center.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee posted the manager name during the inspection

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation: It was observed in the playground that the woodchips have become sparce causing the resilient ground covering to show underneath the swings and in other parts of the playground
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure regular maintenance of the playground is done to ensure the children are free of harm. The licensee stated that she will discuss maintenance with the school.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13030 - CCLR s.22(3) - A licensee must display a copy of the fire drill system in a prominent place in the community care facility.
Observation: It was observed that there was no fire drill system displayed in any parts of the room or hallway. Licensees stated that a fire drill is conducted monthly, so the children and staff are aware of where to go during an emergency.
Corrective Action(s): Please display a copy of the fire drill system in a prominent place for reference during an emergency

Comments

At the inspection dated Jan 24, 2019 there were 7 children and 2 staff present. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

LIcensing officer discussed DIN numbers and the need for parental consent if these items are to be used. It was suggested that plain soap and water are a method that can be used to clean wounds.
