Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation: One qualified staff working in the program on the day of the inspection did not have their certificate posted within the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all qualified staff have their ECE certificates posted in a prominent place within the facility.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: Two tables in the facility where the children eat display signs of wear and tear making the surfaces difficult to effectively clean.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all furniture is easy to clean and free from hazards.

STAFFING: 12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: Two staff files were reviewed and the immunization status was not obtained one employee working on the day of the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure are staff files are complete including immunization status.

Comments

On the inspection date of July 13, 2023 there were 6 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee include a corrective action plan required to be submitted and actions required the LO include to review and monitor corrective action plan. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. This inspection report was reviewed with the staff on site, over the phone with the Licensess who was not present for the inspection and then completed off site and emailed to the facility the following day.
