Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: The program operates from 2 classrooms within the school , 1 of the rooms is showing signs of wear and tear for example - cabinet surfaces are peeling , floors are stained, wall damage exposed drywall at exterior exit door.
Corrective Action(s): please ensure that the facility is maintained in good repair.Please provide your plan included within the correction date to address these areas.It is acknowledged that the work would likely commence during hours of school closure.

Comments

At the inspection dated Feb 12, 2020 there were 31 children and 3 the staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.Please provide a written response by the assigned date. Licensing to confirm receipt.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. Facility manager included plans to refresh the space including removal of stored equipment and reorganization of areas.
Discussed ensuring staff files are readliy availble for review or a checklist maintained. 1 file was unavailble however staff confirmed all required documentation was complete and located at the main office. An email was later received confirming all documentation complete. It is noted that typical practice is for staff to carry with them a travelling file ( when working from various sites)
The following education/recommendations were provided:
Ø Promoting Active Play in the program
Ø Temporary Placement
Ø Active Supervision
Ø Lead in the Water - reviewed steps to flush pipes prior to accessing drinking water

The following resources were provided:
Ø Reportable Incident Bulletin – reviewed the requirement to report to CCFL within 24 hours
Ø Reportable incident forms
