Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP).
Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

The following areas were reviewed:
Licensing
Physical Facility
Staffing
Policies and Procedures
Care and supervision/Hygiene and medication
Nutrition
Program
Child Records and reporting

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided to the facility.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

The operation of the facility is in compliance with current regulations of the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR).

Contraventions
Previous Inspection -
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14020 - CCLR s.34(2)(a) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: The number of children in care did not exceed the Preschool group size, however there was one child on site who did not meet age requirements of the Preschool program.
Corrective Action(s): The Manager stated this was just for today and indicated it would not be taking place any other time. Please ensure children in care always meet age requirements of the program.

Comments

There were 2 staff on site including the Manager along with a support staff with 9 children.
The following discussions were had with the Manager:
- Active Play
- Temporary Placements
- Active Supervision
- Lead in drinking water
- Reportable Incident (RI) reporting
- Care Plans--ensure complete information is available on all copies.

There are not any Exemptions/temporary placements in place.
A response in writing is not required to this inspection.
