About Personal Service Inspection Violation Codes:

Personal service facility violation codes are developed in accordance with specific risk factors associated with the operation of the facility involved. This is intended to provide a correlation between conditions observed during inspection and the Ministry of Health Guidelines on the various types of personal services facilities, and the legal requirements of the Health Act and applicable Regulations.

The Violation Codes noted during inspections are categorized under "Critical Hazards" and "Sanitation and Maintenance" related issues.

Violations which are categorized as Critical are those conditions most likely to contribute to the transmission of infectious diseases (such as inadequate disinfection of skin piercing equipment). Operators are required to correct "Critical Hazard" violations as soon as possible in order to protect public health.

Violations which are categorized as Sanitation and Maintenance are those conditions related to general maintenance and esthetic aspects of the Personal Services Facility (such as inadequate lighting or ventilation). While these violations may, in the long term, contribute to the transmission of infectious diseases, they represent a lower immediate risk to patrons of the facility. Operators are required to correct "Sanitation and Maintenance" violations within a specified time period.
