Chemical Assessment: The last water sample for testing chemical parameters was a raw water sample collected February 20, 2020. The results of the water test show that health-related chemical parameters were within the safe levels according to the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality. Bacteriological Assessment: 76 bacteriological samples were collected from the distribution system (9 sample sites). 10 raw, untreated samples were also collected. Permit conditions require that bacteriological sampling must be done on a monthly basis throughout this year – Van Anda Improvement District (VAID) submits on average 8 samples a month. The frequency of monitoring samples (bacteria) was adequate and met requirements of Schedule B, Drinking Water Protection Regulation. For total coliforms, 0% of water samples taken from the distribution system had total coliforms detected (0 samples out of 76). The potability standard in Schedule A, Drinking Water Protection Regulation requires 10% or less of collected sample to have presence of total coliform; therefore the water samples met the potability standard in Schedule A, Drinking Water Protection Regulation. For E. coli testing, the water samples met the potability standard in Schedule A, Drinking Water Protection Regulation. With no total coliform counts, and no E. coli detected anywhere, overall, this is an excellent record of bacterial sampling. Summary of Issues and Activities: Emergency Response and Contingency Plan (ERCP) has been submitted and is approved in 2020, however since then, there has been a recent change in the Medical Health Officer. A template to update your ERCP will be attached with this evaluation. An annual report for 2021 (for public distribution) has not been submitted. Please ensure a copy of your 2021 annual report (for your water system users) is submitted to VCH by June 2022. A water-sample range report (PDF version) of all bacteria tests taken in 2021 has been provided to the operator along with this inspection report. In 2018, VAID had received a grant to enhance their water treatment system. The board members had reviewed their options and had gone forward with hiring an engineering firm (KWL Associates Ltd.). KWL Associates Ltd. has applied for a VCH construction permit for the following upgrades: Ø A new steel water storage tank Ø UV units with NSF55A certification Ø Resin filters for the improvement of the raw water UV transmittance These upgrades has since been installed and VAID Water System now meets the 4,3,2,1<,0 Drinking Water Objectives for Surface Water. There were three construction permits issued by VCH to VAID in 2021 for three separate watermain replacements. Van Anda also has two EOCP certified operators with a backup operator from GBID. Operators are very diligent and knowledgeable.
