Chemical Assessment: The last water sample for testing chemical parameters was a raw water sample collected February 20, 2020. The results of the water test show that health-related chemical parameters were within the safe levels according to the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality. Bacteriological Assessment: 112 bacteriological samples were collected from the distribution system (12 sample sites). 10 raw, untreated samples were also collected. Permit conditions require that bacteriological sampling must be done on a monthly basis throughout this year – Van Anda Improvement District (VAID) submits on average 8 samples a month. The frequency of monitoring samples (bacteria) was adequate and met requirements of Schedule B, Drinking Water Protection Regulation. For total coliforms, 0% of water samples taken from the distribution system had total coliforms detected (0 samples out of 112). The potability standard in Schedule A, Drinking Water Protection Regulation requires 10% or less of collected sample to have presence of total coliform; therefore the water samples met the potability standard in Schedule A, Drinking Water Protection Regulation. For E. coli testing, the water samples met the potability standard in Schedule A, Drinking Water Protection Regulation. With no total coliform counts, and no E. coli detected anywhere, overall, this is an excellent record of bacterial sampling. Summary of Issues and Activities: Emergency Response and Contingency Plan (ERCP) has been submitted and is approved in 2023. An annual report for 2022 (for public distribution) has been submitted and accepted by VCH. Similarly, please ensure a copy of your 2023 annual report (for your water system users) is submitted to VCH by June 2024. A water-sample range report (PDF version) of all bacteria tests taken in 2019 has been provided to the operator along with this inspection report. There have been significant upgrades in 2018. VAID Water System now meets the 4,3,2,1<,0 Drinking Water Objectives for Surface Water. Van Anda also has two EOCP certified operators with a backup operator from GBID. Operators are very diligent and knowledgeable.
