Rappahannock Health District

The Rappahannock Area Health District (RAHD) provides health services to the Counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, Stafford and the City of Fredericksburg. One of the main health services provided to the residents and visitors of our area is the foodservice program, which is part of our Environmental Health program. In 1992 there were approximately 450 foodservice facilities in the health district and that number has grown to approximately 750 in 2003. Our food program’s primary mission is to ensure that all foodservice facilities in the district are operated in a manner that will prevent a foodborne disease outbreak.

It is estimated that 6 to 33 million people become ill in the United States from microorganisms in food each year and as many as 11,000 deaths occur nationally due to foodborne illness. To ensure the public is protected, all foodservice facilities are inspected twice a year and the staff at RAHD provide education and training whenever possible. The staff developed a food course titled "Food Safety Over Easy" and in the past year taught over 450 foodservice employees representing 25% of all foodservice facilities in the area. We believe that communication and education are vital in protecting the public.

On this website you can view the most recent foodservice inspections of the facilities in our health district that are permitted under the State Board of Health’s Food Regulations.
