Chickahominy Health District
The Chickahominy Health District is located on the boundary of the Richmond Metropolitan area and includes the counties of Charles City, Goochland, Hanover, and New Kent. Food service establishment inspection personnel are responsible for inspecting a variety of food service establishments; including restaurants, school cafeterias, day cares, adult homes, bed and breakfasts, campgrounds, summer camps, and temporary events. Personnel also conduct periodic inspections of hotel/motels, pools, and migrant labor camps and are responsible for permitting commercial and residential onsite sewage disposal systems and wells.
The district is home to Paramount’s King’s Dominion and Colonial Downs and is responsible for inspecting these two large seasonal food service operations.
Although food safety and enforcement are the major focuses of the food program, the Hanover Health District offers many educational opportunities for food service establishments and for the general public. They include:
*The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s Servsafe class is a food service sanitation course offered at least three times a year for food service operators, managers, and staff.
*The Temporary Food Service Class is a food service sanitation course offered at least twice a year for churches, social and fraternal organizations, and other vendors who provide food to the public at fairs, festivals, and other temporary events.
*Food service training for a particular facility in the district is provided upon request.
