Comments:

An inspection was conducted to follow-up on pest control measures since the last inspection on August 23, 2011 when flour beetles were noted along baseboards under prep table. The manager has since confirmed that the current pest control company has been working with the facility to address the problem. There was no improvement noted in the area where cornmeal is presently stored. The continues to be a large accumulation of cornmeal on the floor and in surrounding area. Flour beetles were seen during this inspection.

A review of all pest control reports for this facility was conducted for the last year or service (7 reports in total). Several of the reports mention a need for improved cleaning and removal of food debris from the floors as well as properly storing food in sealed containers. One report also mentions unsanitary conditions throughout the restaurant.
During this inspection it did not appear that this facility is implementing many of the recommendations of the pest control company to the extent that they will be effective in helping to address the existing and potential pest problems. Some photographs were taken and will be reviewed with the store manager.

At this time an on-site meeting will be requested with the current store manager to discuss the expectations moving forward with respect to cleaning and general sanitation.

During the review of the pest control records it was also noted that on 2 separate occasions over the past year the pest control company was called by the operator to respond to suspected rodent activity. The most recent emergency report is dated June 3, 2011 and indicates that a site visit was conducted in response to rodent activity in the ceiling area. Two subsequent reports from the pest control company indicate there has been no sign of live pest activity within the building suggesting that any droppings found in the ceiling area may not have been deposited recently. Despite no live captures or evidence of pest activity in bait stations staff must be cautioned that cleaning up old fecal matter and dried urine from rodents still presents a potential health hazard through aerosolization and dermal contact and must be done in accordance with all recommendations of the pest control company. Some documentation will also be provided with this report.
