Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: During the routine inspection licensing observed that the policies and procedures intended to guide staff were not available on site. manager said that the Policies and Procedures have been taken to head office to be revised. The policies and procedures have not been returned to the facility yet.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure policies and procedures are available to guide employees.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17120 - CCLR s.48(6) - A licensee must make available to parents information on the food and drink given to children.
Observation: During the routine inspection licensing observed a plater of fruit and some cookies on the table. Licensing asked if this is common practice. Manager said that the children are being offered snacks at the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Please provide a compliance plan as how the information regarding food and drink given to children is relayed to parents.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: During the routine inspection the manager could not produce the attendance records for the children in care. The manager said that the facility has started using a new app for children records, including the attendance records and the manager was unable to show attendance for previous days.
Corrective Action(s): Please provide a compliance plan regarding attendance records.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19110 - CCLR s.57(2)(e) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (e) any illness, allergy or medical disability disclosed to the licensee by the child or his or her parent or medical practitioner.
Observation: During the routine inspection it was observed that a few children who required extra support did not have a care plan on site. A conversation was had regarding the care plan and the Care Plan Bulletin was provided as a resource. Manager said that next week she will begin having conversations with the parents and work on creating care plans for all children who require a care plan.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children who require extra support have a care plan on site.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 15, 2024 there were 22 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The licensee is required to address the contraventions, bring the facility into compliance, and provide a written response to Licensing by the date written below. Licensing will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following was discussed:
· Minor incident log to be maintained. To ensure the integrity of the information a bound log book was recommended.
