Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Upon inspection, Licensing found that there is not sufficient food and water for 72 hours to respond and recover from any emergency.
Corrective Action(s): The Manager explained that moving forward she will provide items for the emergency kits.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: Upon inspection, Licensing observed that children's hands were not washed before eating snack.
The Manager explained that children are provided with a wet cloth and wash their hands after playing outside.
Corrective Action(s): The Manager explained that children's hands will be washed, prior to meal times.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19220 - CCLR s.58(1)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation: Upon inspection, Licensing found that a child with an indicated allergy on their registration form, did not have a care plan that includes the course of action recommended by health care professionals. The Manager was able to verbally explain how to respond.
Corrective Action(s): The Manager explained that she will follow up with the child's parent and develop and care plan.

At the inspection dated May 1, 2024 there were 6 children 1 staff, and The Manager present. At this inspection the above contraventions were identified. Licensee/Manager to provide Licensing with a written response with actions taken to bring facility into compliance. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool will be completed and a copy will be provided.
