Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Staff did not encourage or instruct children to wash hands.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that appropriate hygiene rules and practices are implemented with the children.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At today’s inspection there were 6 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection above contravention was identified. The Manager took corrective action onsite to bring the facility into compliance. As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. This report was reviewed with the Manager and a copy was provided.
LO discussion the following items with staff/Manager on site:

-Sunscreen: safe and hygienic sunscreen application must be practiced with children to avoid any cross contamination/ spreading germs/ potential allergic reaction
-Reportable Incident procedure
-Temporary Placement application
-Hygiene practices, i.e. hand washing
-Water temperature: manager regularly check in with the facility maintenance to ensure that water temp is no more than 49
