Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed that in three rooms the cupboards were not locked and hazardous materials i.e plastic paper bags were being stored.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the cupboards remain locked at all times.

STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: Toddler room fire drill log was not maintained and up to date.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the fire drill log is maintained on a monthly basis.

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated August 29, 2023 there were 34 children with nine staff present. Licensing met with the manager present on the site. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following was discussed:
Diaper Rash creams medication that are not being used or belong to the children who do not attend the facility any more should be either returned or discarded.
Use of Individual Minor Incident log forms versus a log book for eacah classroom
Biting in children (Health Link BC- Bulletin emailed)
