Introduction

An unscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the inspection licensing observed:
-Cupboard under the sink was unlatched with two bleach bottles accessible to children. This was corrected during inspection.
-The bathroom in JK 1 contained; a spray bottle with bleach, diapers stored on the counter, an air freshener spray on the counter, toys below the change table, a box of diapers next to the toilet, chairs preventing easy access to the change table, and toilet. All items were relocated during the inspection.
-The bathroom in JK 4 contained a potty seat stored on the floor, both the potty seat, and the stool were observed with urine on them. This was corrected during the inspection.
-The walls in JK 1, and JK 4 had some drywall damage, accessible to children. Manager stated that this was planned to be corrected this weekend.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Of 6 staff records reviewed, 2 records contained the applicaiton for CRC, however the criminal record check was not in file at the time of inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the licensee does not employ a person in the community care facility unless the licensee has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Summary of Inspection:.
During today’s inspection, there were 45 children, 11 staff and the manager on site
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Fire drill practice was discussed
Dishwashing practice was discussed, the manager showed licensing the 3 sink method used by the staff.
Air fresheners in bathrooms were discussed.
Please ensure any medication that is expired such as epi-pen or inhaler, has a doctor approving the use of the medication after the expiry date.
