Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: During the routine inspection it was observed that the water temperature in the bathroom sink was heated at 53 degrees Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the water in heated at no more than 49 degrees Celsius.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 15, 2023 there were 3 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Temporary Placements
· A conversation was had regarding the above ground pool found in the back yard and the hot tub also located in the back yard.
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water

Observations regarding the above ground pool which was re-installed after fall 2020.
- above ground pool (18 foot) was re-installed in the back yard.
- double fencing surrounds the pool. No gaps were found in the fence to allow access to the pool.
- licensee said that children do not have access to the pool or hot tub. Hot tub was observed to be locked by a metal bar.
- licensee said that every spring/summer the fencing is maintained and any fence polls are verified for sturdiness.
