Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #SWAR-AY6NFD have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12160 - CCLR s.20(1) - The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation: The Licensee recently completed a criminal record check for an individual ordinarily present on the premise however the Licensee confirmed that there are two other individuals ordinarily present that do not have valid criminal record checks.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that all individuals over the age of 12 ordinarily present on the premise have updated criminal record checks.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13040 - CCLR s.56(1)(a) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (a) written policies and procedures for the safe release of children.
Observation: Licensing reviewed the facilities policies and procedures. There is no written policy and procedure for the safe release of children. The Licensee confirmed that this policy has not been created.
Corrective Action(s): Create and implement a policy and procedure for the safe release of children.

Comments

At this inspection there were 7 children and the Licensee present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee is required to take corrective action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to Licensing. The Licensee Officer will email the License a document on creating a policy and procedure on the safe release of children. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
