Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). There were 4 children and 1 staff at the facility during the inspection. All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the main entryway there were two blind cords hanging down in reach of children. In the nap room, there was one cord hanging down in reach of children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all blind cords are secured out of reach of children in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Water that is accessible to children in care was measured with a themometer at 54.1 degrees Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all water accessible to children in care measures no higher than 49 degrees Celsius at any time.

-Fire drills and using both areas of egress during practice
-Ensuring all exits/doorways/halls have full access in case of emergency, at all times

This Inspection report was completed off site and provided by email therefore signature not obtained. All parts of this report were discussed with the staff during the inspection. A written response from the licensee is not required for the contraventions identified. A plan is already in place and may be re-inspected at a later date for compliance.
