Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance
The following areas were reviewed:

· Nutrition and Food Services
· Program
· Records and Reporting

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Walk through of the classroom, it was noted that a large shelf measuring over 3 feet in height is not secured and could cause injury if falls.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all shelving over 3 feet in height is secured, and the storage of materials is done so in a safe manner.
Date to be Corrected: April 9, 2021

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Audit of staff file revealed that a Criminal Record Check was not completed by the appropriate agency
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a CRC has been applied for through the appropriate agency
Date to be Corrected: March 19, 2021

STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation: Audit of staff file lacked evidence to support that their references were checked prior to employment
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times

STAFFING: 12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: Audit of staff file revealed no information regarding the status of their immunization(s)
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times

Comments

At the inspection dated March 17, 2021 there were 3 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection contravention(s) were identified, and a written response has been requested to be submitted to Licensing. Follow up inspection will be required at a later date.

The contents of this inspection were discussed on-site, however the completion of the Facility Inspection Report, and corresponding Risk Assessment Tool were completed off-site (time spent .50 hours) and were sent to the Licensee/Manager via email. No signatures were captured during today's inspection.
