Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation: Reference(names and contact information) provided for a staff employed within the facility however there is no record to demonstrate that the references have been contacted.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a system is developed to capture staff screening requirements including reference checks.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Out of six files checked one file had immunization status record missing.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that record of immunization status is complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19320 - CCLR s.59(a) - In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation: The children's records were not available in a single place as some information was stored on the Sandbox system and some in the paper files.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all the records referred to in sections 56 to 58 are kept in a single place and are available for the licensing to check. Provide in your written response your plan for having records accessible to licensing in single place.

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated March 28, 2022 there were 13 children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

Having a system in place to check the expired food in the Emergency Supplies bin.
